We live in Washington, USA.
I am a project manager on an engineering team. Over the past six months, I have fallen into the trap of doing non-promotable "office housework"—taking minutes in every cross-functional meeting, ordering lunches, and organizing team retrospectives.
In my last 1-on-1, my manager specifically warned me: "These glue tasks don't count toward your senior promotion; focus on core deliverable milestones."
However, in our weekly project sync tomorrow, colleagues will inevitably ask: "Hey, can you take notes and track action items today?"
1. What is an exact, professional, speakable sentence I can say in the meeting to decline taking notes and propose a rotating schedule?
2. What is the one-sentence comeback if a colleague sighs and says "Come on, you're just better at it, can't you do it this once?"
Answer
**明天会上**(说一次就够,不要解释):
> "My manager and I have agreed I need to focus on core deliverable milestones this half, so I'd like us to rotate note-taking across the team going forward. I can drop a sign-up sheet in our shared doc right after this meeting."
**对方叹气说"you're better at it / just this once" 时**(先接住,再把人推到具体动作上):
> "Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm still asking for the rotation to start today — would you like to take notes for this one?"
