That plan is a 4-year-old-and-71-year-old-canary. Every stop on it costs you a hotel change, a luggage transfer across cobblestones, and a half-day killed by transit — for a grandmother who already tires on hills. **Sintra deserves a visit, but as a day trip from Lisbon, not as an overnight that drags everyone up the mountain.** Coimbra and Douro add two more transits without adding anything a 4-year-old will remember. The blog is written for a 20-something doing 5 stops in 5 days.

- **Blog's 5-stop plan:** 4 hotel changes in 8 days with a 71yo with a cane and a 4yo. Cobblestone drag × 4.
- **Add Coimbra as overnight stop on the way to Porto:** breaks the train into two transfers with luggage; the city itself is a steep UNESCO hill town — same problem Sintra has, minus the kid-friendly reward.

1. **Your nationality** — determines whether a Schengen short-stay visa is needed and how much lead time to leave before mid-October.
2. **The exact week in October** — Sintra Pena Palace timed entries and Porto hotel availability shift week to week.

Other things I'm working around as **assumptions** (you correct one sentence, I recalculate): origin city = somewhere in East Asia (assumed from the calendar context — confirm so I can recheck flights); passport still has ≥ 6 months validity past your departure date (you check the封底 line yourself).
