My 6th grader had this problem on yesterday's decimal division homework:
"Evaluate: 4.8 ÷ 0.06"
His work showed:
He shifted the decimal point two places to the right on 0.06 to turn it into 6. But on 4.8, he only shifted the decimal point one place to the end of the number to get 48. Then he wrote 48 ÷ 6 = 8.
When I asked him about it, he said: "The rule says move the decimal point all the way to the end so they are both whole numbers!"
